Passive smoking: no proof that passive smoking causes cancer
|
Further to the comment by Sir Richard Doll in 2001 in respect of Passive Smoking,
"The effects of other people smoking in my presence is so small it doesn't worry me".
This piece of research published in the highly prestigious British Medical Journal in 2003 that might be useful if in a debate.
Over 100,000 people were studied between 1959 and 1998. That's a lot of people and a long study!
The Conclusion?
"The results do not support a causal relation between environmental tobacco smoke and tobacco related mortality, although they do not rule out a small effect. The association between exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and coronary heart disease and lung cancer may be considerably weaker than generally believed."
So, contrary to claims, it hasn't been proven conclusively that passive smoking causes cancer.
A pipe smoker writes:
"Personally, I am very passive when smoking a good pipe..."
